2008
Washington DC - Maslin Digital, working for the Chrysler Corporation, captured the excitement at the annual transAfrica Awards. Hosted by actor and social activist Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon), and emceed by actress Sheryl Lee Ralph (Dreamgirls), the transAfrica Awards program honors those who encourage progressive viewpoints and who advocate justice for the people of Africa. Receiving the Corporate Social Responsibility Award was W. Frank Fountain, Senior Vice President of Chrysler Corporation. Musical entertainment was provided by Grammy Award winner Wynton Marsalis.
Rochester, NY - RTL Germany in association with HBO commissioned Maslin Digital to document 2 days of training camp in High Definition for boxer Hasim "The Rock" Rahman, as he prepared for his heavyweight title fight in Germany. Director of Photography Bryan Maslin followed The Rock through two intensive days of training, which included running the beaches of Lake Ontario, sparring and workouts at two area training facilities. He also shot interviews with The Rock, his manager, and members of his entourage.
United States and Europe - Working with producers from Jack Morton Worldwide in Detroit, Bryan traveled to six venues in the States and Europe for client General Motors. As part of the GMnext PlugIn promotion, DP Bryan Maslin and the team went to five rock festivals shooting interviews and jam sessions with some of the hottest acts in music, like Foo Fighters, Disturbed, Jason Mraz, Blues Traveler, and nearly 50 more! The celebrity host was Kyle Gass, actor and musician with Jack Black in the rock band Tenacious D.
Syracuse, NY – Bryan and his team spent a day shooting interviews for the show World's Wildest Vacation Disasters. The story featured a man who, while volunteering for his friends' parasailing business, was accidentally lifted 200 feet in the air with the customer - without the benefit of a harness! The man eventually plunged hundreds of feet into the water and survived with relatively minor injuries.
New York State - Maslin Digital completed another season of work for the History Channel show Modern Marvels in 2008. Working with producers for the California-based Actuality Productions, Bryan and sound tech Aaron Austin shot High Def segments for the Mad Electricity show in Niagara Falls, and the Beans show at a soy processing plant.
2007
Verona, NY - Turning Stone Resort was the site of a shoot with Marie Osmond for ABC TV's popular Dancing with the Stars show. Marie was appearing in concert at the resort with other members of the Osmond family between her weekly appearances on Dancing with the Stars. DP Bryan Maslin shot an interview with Marie in High Definition, then assisted the show producer in shooting additional footage of Marie and her dance partner practicing their upcoming routine.
Philadelphia, PA - The premiere of the Lionsgate motion picture Pride was the motivation for the production of a national Public Service television campaign, encouraging urban parents to teach their children to swim. The campaign, sponsored by USA Swimming, featured Pride star Terrence Howard, and the movie's subject, swimming coach Jimmy Ellis. Bryan and his team were hired to shoot the High Definition greenscreen commercials with Terrence and Jimmy, which were edited in Los Angeles and aired nationally.
New York State - In association with award winning PBS station WXXI in Rochester, Bryan shot numerous High Def segments of the PBS series Taste of New York during the summer. Working with show host Susan Hunt and producer Gertrude Houston, the show featured wineries from the Finger Lakes region, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and Western New York regions. Restaurants, farms and food processing plants from across the state were also featured in the series, highlighting preparations and pairings of regionally produced food and beverages.
New York State - Maslin Digital completed another season of work for the History Channel show Modern Marvels in 2007. Working with producers for the California-based Actuality Productions, Maslin Digital shot High Def segments for the World's Sharpest show at the Cutco manufacturing plant, and the Salt show at the American Rock Salt facility.
2006
United States – Director of Photography Bryan Maslin and sound tech / 2nd unit cameraman Timothy Brown traveled over 4,000 road miles shooting a High Def documentary on the famous Cannonball Run road rally. Over 80 cars of all types took part in the rally, which traversed 16 states and visited 10 racetracks in 7 days. The rally, now called the Tire Rack Cannonball One Lap of America, consists of race teams earning points by driving racetrack laps. Maslin Digital was part of a team assembled by New York City's Rainbow Media to document the performance of the Microsoft XBOX 360 race team, which finished 10th out of over 70 finishers. The show was broadcast on the VOOM High Definition television network.
Wolcott, NY - A ferret breeding facility was the location for a scene of the Nickelodeon show Ned's Declassified. The program story line follows a school pet, a mischievous ferret who "borrows" items from around the school. Ultimately, it is discovered that the ferret is building a nest to have her babies. Using a set piece delivered from California, Maslin Digital provided shots of the baby ferrets in High Definition for use in the program.
Rochester, NY - Greece Arcadia High School provided the backdrop for a High Definition ESPN feature on Jason McElwain. McElwain, an autistic student and manager of the Arcadia varsity basketball squad, garnered national headlines in February by scoring 20 points in under four minutes during the team's final regular season game. The J-Mac story is now being optioned for a Hollywood movie. A large crew headed by ESPN producer Danny Arruda spent 2 days at the high school interviewing Jason, his family, and his coach, and shooting scenes of the high school and local scenics. Bryan Maslin provided 2nd unit High Def camera services.
Buffalo, NY - A Veterans of Foreign Wars post was the location of a shoot for the Activision video game Call of Duty 3. The DVD game is based on real battles fought in World War 2, and includes interviews with actual veterans who fought in that epic conflict. Under the direction of producer Dan Tirtawinada, Bryan shot High Def interviews with several WWII veterans, and added additional shots of period photographs, medals and memorabilia. All will be included in the new edition of the Call of Duty video game, and are being considered for use in a documentary for national broadcast.
